Junkin & Dallas Wind Symphony – Percy Grainger: Lincolnshire Posy
Die Dallas Wind Symphony unter der Leitung von Jerry Junkin ist Amerikas einziges Vollzeit-Blasorchester. Kaum ein anderes Orchester könnte sich den Werken des australischen Musikers und Komponisten mit einer Vorliebe für alternative Instrumentierungen so eindrucksvoll widmen. Besonders seine Vorstellung von möglichst großen Besetzungen mit eben so großer Spielfreude ließen sich hervorragend umsetzen. Auch seine Anweisungen nach doppelter Paukenbesetzung und Sonderinstrumenten wie einem tiefer gestimmten Glockenspiel wurden befolgt.
Percy Grainger (1882-1961) lässt sich am einfachsten als sehr individuelle Persönlichkeit beschreiben. Trotz klassischer musikalischer Ausbildung in Deutschland verfolgte er die Idee einer volkstümlichen und nordisch geprägten Musik. Er sammelte mit Hingabe lokales Liedgut und machte Aufnahmen auf Wachzylindern um die feinen Nuancen in den nur mündlich überlieferten Stücken einfangen zu können. In späteren Jahren entwickelte er seinen eigenen Musikstil und seine experimentelle Verwendung von Instrumenten gewagt weiter. So konnte ein Blasorchester durchaus zusätzlich mit Piano und Harfe besetzt werden und Saxophone treten am Besten nur als große Gruppe auf.
Die vorliegende Aufnahme wurde durch „Prof." Keith Johnson im August 2008 in Dallas, Texas im Meyerson Symhony Center volldigital aufgenommen. Das beiliegende Handbuch enthält Erläuterungen der einzelnen Stücke und sogar eine Auflistung aller Musiker der Dallas Wind Symphony.
